First Gift from Spirit Keeper of the North
The Stone for Cleansing is the First Stone in the path from the Spirit Keeper of the
North to the Center Circle and Creator.
Raccoon is a fitting Totem for the Gift of Cleansing.
I intended to write quite a bit about Raccoon, but I found this site and, well,
it cannot be done better than or even equal to Seth J. Morabito's WORLD WIDE
RACCOON WEB. Please give yourself a real treat by reading his intro page.
So here are a few other facts and will leave the rest to Mr. Morabito. :o)
Raccoons are listed as one of the mammals that existed in the Miocene Epoch.
That was from 2.4 million to 5 million years ago according to people who study
this area of knowledge. Everyone already knows that Raccoon is a nocturnal
being - doing all his hunting and fishing at night. Raccoon walks with the entire
sole of his foot on the ground, as do rabbits, bears, and human beings!
The name raccoon is of Virginia Algonquian origin, according to my
American Heritage® Dictionary, and the Cheyenne Indians refer to Raccoon as
macho-on (the one who makes magic).
From Raccoon we learn merriment, boldness, intelligence, wiliness, and
tenacity, as well as Cleansing. When you stop to meditate at the first Stone in
the Northern path, think of Raccoon, and ask this ancient Spirit to help you learn

The Plant that represents Cleansing is Echinacea,
also known as Purple Coneflower, which also helps to cleanse ones system of
invaders. Research shows that Echinacea boosts the immune system, which
helps the body defend itself against bacteria and viral infections. The effect is
lost if you use this herb too long. No more than a week is recommended
by alternative and holistic health sources and you should start taking it at the
Purple Coneflower grows wild on the prairies of North America and once
was a beautiful sight when it bloomed in late summer. Our Native American
forerunners knew it to be a healer, and used it for infections and snake bites.
Echinacea is powerful. As you can see by the physical action, a little use
is better than more. Perhaps the same can be said for Cleansing one's system
on the mental, emotional, and spiritual levels - short bursts of Cleansing
followed by Renewal may work best. Cleansing again when the need arises.
The Mineral Sodalite
Sodalite, a scarce mineral named for its sodium content, is used for
carvings and some jewelry pieces. It is known in the semi-precious stone trade
for its light to dark pure blue color. For more information on this mineral, click
Sodalite is the perfect mineral to assist us with Cleansing ourselves of
negativities. Sodium enhances any cleansing process. Working with Sodalite in
whatever way seems right for you will help cleanse away problems on all levels
and clear the way for Renewal and further Spiritual progress. You can wear
Sodalite, carve it, use it like a "worry stone," meditate with it, or whatever seems
most helpful for you. And always remember to talk with Sodalite (or any Stone),
asking for assistance with whatever you wish to wash out of your being.
The color for the Stone representing Cleansing is Pale Green. The power of this color is connecting the physical and etheric planes; helps you prepare, cleanse and purify yourself for working on higher levels of growth and transformation. Pale Green is also helpful in removing impurities from, or detoxifying, the body, mind, and spirit. It is good for releasing, cleansing, and purifying - helps let go of the old to make room for the new.
